Stanmore 7-12
DISCOVER WHAT’S POSSIBLE AT NEWINGTON
The College provides a vast array of opportunities for Newington boys to first discover and then develop their special talents.
Stanmore 7–12 is a non-selective, multi-stream school for boys with a Middle School (Years 7–9) and Senior School (Years 10–12). The size of the student population is approximately 1050, including 50 boarders. The campus is located on nine hectares in the inner-west suburb of Stanmore and is a short two-minute walk from Stanmore station.
ENROLMENT
There is a major intake of new students in Year 7, although the school allows for enrolment at any stage if there is a vacancy. The diverse curriculum at the Secondary School provides a solid preparation for the NSW School Certificate, Higher School Certificate and also the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Stanmore 7–12 is a rich school environment in which learning is dynamic, individual and focused. We ask every student to challenge himself and to set achievable goals. When students know themselves as learners, they are empowered to imagine, create and achieve. We believe that by empowering students we encourage them to develop their true potential.
Beyond our rigorous teaching and learning programs that aim to find success for all boys sit a range of opportunities that ensure we maintain a balanced and well rounded educational environment. As our boys find themselves succeeding in and beyond the classroom so too do they find confidence to tackle new learning challenges.
Our clear focus is on how boys learn. We tap into what excites boys in the classroom, on the stage, and on the sporting field. As a Uniting Church school we hold true to Christian principles where all members of the community are valued.
ALL–ROUND EDUCATION
Our focus is also on boys’ all-round development. We have a strong tradition of academic excellence, but also recognise that there are many ways that boys can enjoy success. We want boys to develop academically, socially, physically, spiritually and aesthetically, and we provide many opportunities for this to take place. Whilst there is a strong emphasis on the acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills, a core component of our teaching is focused on the development of our boys’ thinking skills.
Each boy is valued for his unique capacity to contribute to the life of the College.
COMMUNITY AND CO-CURRICULAR
Stanmore 7–12 is a dynamic community of people. The values of justice, tolerance and compassion are acknowledged in all of our endeavours. We aspire to the highest standards of behaviour and academic and co-curricular achievement, and this is demonstrated amongst the students and staff by an emphasis on strong, supportive teamwork.
We are recognised as a school which promotes and achieves excellence through a balance between academic achievement, personal development and social responsibility.
Students are encouraged to reach their full potential in a diverse program of activities, ranging from academic pursuits and cultural and sporting interests through to the development of qualities of leadership, compassion for others, self-esteem and a growing spiritual awareness.
